Game Notes

- Basic Game Info -

This is probably the perfect game for my to do a Review one, seeing how I am a huge hockey fan, I know all the Statistics about teams players , almost anything you can think off. I've also been a great follower of Hockey Gaming. I first started out with Nhl 93, Was a great game and I played it everyday, 5+ games a day. I finished like 10 seasons when for Christmas of 95 I got Nhl 96. I played that over and over again till I got Nhl97, same thing with 97 until I got 98. Then this year I even got Nhl99 for PC. I thought it was a good game, not much better then 98 but it still had its improvements. The only reasons I got the Playstation version were because I always played using the Keyboard for all the PC versions, and I thought it would be way better if I had a controller, with dual Shock and I also thought that the Psx would be faster at loading and I wouldn't have to use HardDrive space like the PC one. Well was I Wrong...... This game totally sucks for the Playstation. Probably one of my worst other then Tomb Raider 3. The PC version blows the Playstation Away. And here I'll show you why.

- Highs -

Makes a good Frisbee. Makes a even Better Coaster. Can be used as A Weapon like on Xena. I can't say the whole damn game sucks. There are some highs. I liked the fact that there is a practice mode where you can try some special skills like 1 on 1's , 2 on 1's, 3 on 1's , Breakaways. Practice your powerplay, Shorthanded mode. That's pretty fun, trying 2 on 1's and making the nicest possible play you can. The Graphics in the Game are also not bad, the Graphics have been pretty good thrush out the series. I also like the fact there is a shot meter and you can see the speed of your slap shots, the only thing is the shot meter isn't really realistic, the fact that I can blast shots at 116 km/h with Keith Tkatchuk is pretty amazing.

- Lows -

This is by far the slowest loading Game I have ever seen on the PlayStation, take about 1 & 1/2 minutes just to get playing. Once you do the game play is slow as hell, does feel fast enough like the real game. The Game has the dumbest hitting I've seen, usually when I got to check a guy, My players end up rubbing each other again the other player till my controller just vibrates . Then their player just skates away. The Computer players are pretty damn dumb too, sometimes they have the puck infront of my net so they just stand there waiting for something, they can sometimes stand there for 5-10 seconds, just holding the puck not skating, till one of my players goes to Hit(Rub) against him until he loses the puck. Their Goalie holds the puck all the time, even if I don't have players around their net, and even though this is done in the Real Leagues, this is a game and I don't think it needs to be like it, or else its not that much fun. Also the Computer teams always end up scoring that tie'ing goal, or game winner with under 30 seconds to go.... Really happens all the time you say in the NHL? Not from the center line it don't. I've even seen the puck go into the net right off the face-off, With the Goalies still in. Its Like your playing Hockey with 3 year olds.

- Overall -

Deffinetly not the best Sports game out there. If you want to play some Sports games and you don't really care if its Football,Hockey,Basketball etc... then I  would Recommend trying something like NFL Blitz or NBA Live 99, both great games where no Rubbing takes place. I surely think this series has taken the turn for the worse especially on the Playstation. If you gotta play a Hockey Game, I heard NHL face-off 99 is pretty good.
