- Basic Game Info -If you have never heard of the Zelda series... get your head out of the ground. This remarkable seiries of Action/RPG's was started by Ninendo's own Miyamoto, and are all exclussivly for Nintendo. This game is another N64 game that lived up to it's name. It follows Link, a boy from the mystical land of Hyrule, on an epic adventure that sees him meet new friends, make new enemies, collect new items and weapons, and even sees him grow old. This game offers the unique feature of going back and forth through time. As with the other Zelda games, the point is much the same. Link must save the land of Hyrule from the evil Ganondorf, recover the tri-force (a mystical object used to grant wishes), and as always must save Princess Zelda. The game also incorperates many different races. There are the gorons (rock eating/cave dwellers), the zoras (an underwater civilization), the gureudo (a band of female theves/also where Ganondorf came from), the kokariki (a group of short elf like forest dwellers) and others. Throughout the game you must save 7 sages... these few beings have the power to put Gannondorf away for good.- Highs -One word... huge... the land of hyrule in this game is enormous. The land of hyrule consists of everything... from forests, to desert, to volcanos, you name it Zelda's got it. (A little exageration but there are lots of places). Just like Mario 64 this game offers many hours of exploration. If this isn't enough for you, the graphics should be. The graphics are wonderful. The time of day even changes from night to day... you can see the sun/moon moving in the sky... and if you really want to you can look straight into the sun and see it shining on the screen. Now this is quality. The sound is also above average. You can hear the claning of weapons, the ratling of chains, or the muffled grunts of Link. The weapons are many and the items are cool. There are 4 kinds of swords (if you count the one that breaks right away), 3 kinds of shields, 3 kinds of boots, 3 kinds of tunics, and much, much more. As an added bonus... each one of the tunics, boots, and sheilds have special purposes. For a few examples of this:Hover Boots- The name explains it all. It will allow you to float in the air for a short time.Mirror Sheild- It reflects the sun. Ill leave you to find out what its for.& Zora Tunic- Like a zora, when your wearing this you can stay unerwater for as long as you want. The ability to go back and forth through time is a great feature. In some places you will even have to go back in time and do something after you have done something in the future. It has many reasons... all of which should be put to great use.The strong points are too many in numbers to list them all so Ill stop now.. but I will say this. Zelda 64 is a phenominally made, and very inovative game.- Lows -Not much to complain about here. First off is the difficulty of the game. Many people find it very hard... but I found it incredibly easy for the most part... I guess it all depends on your skill but I found it too easy. This is however made up for in the length of the game. Another bad part, that isnt a crisis, just something that would of helped it distinquish itself as a Zelda game. The traditional Zelda music wasn't used for the begining anymore and was replaced by a much more boring song. The song is in the game somewhere though... but it is less evident then ever before. This was disapointing but not that big of a deal.- Overall -Winning Nintendo Powers game of the year (not to mention basically every other award it was nominated for) this game truly distinquishes itself as one of the Nintendo 64 classics. Nintendo and Miyamoto won many awards for this game and once again have out-done themselves. I recommend this game to anyone who loves the Zelda series, Action/RPG's, or just plain having a good time. If you havent experienced Zelda's terrific worlds, many mini games, or many mini quests... get the game now. This game is truly one of a kind. |
